EGR Gasket sealing Empty EGR Gasket sealing

    Post  HeavyChevy77 Sat Mar 07, 2015 10:24 pm

I've been having an issue with my egr bolts working loose I put a tiny bit of blue loctite and it loosened up
I just put new gaskets put a two good drops of loctite on the threads and some lockwashers too and the same for the base part of the egr adapter (resided washer and the other had no washer)
If it works loose I was wondering about using orange rtv as the gasket sealing material
Would this work some said no but it works on the headers
    What u guys think

Have you tried replacing the bolts? If that doesn't work, Stage 8 should have a locking fastener that can be used for your application. You'll need to know the bolt size first though. Don't quote me on this, but it's probably 3/8-16.

the old manifold had  studs with the threads all worn
bought a new one and adapter for the egr new bolts and all
they just work them selves loose with heat alumminum intake steel adapter

I never had a problem with that ever happening but that was on the old iron intake, ive also had block off plates on the aluminum intakes and nothing like that happened, probably was just the bolts. but some loctite and lock washers should never loosen up!

yea its weird after a week a driving u go try to move the egr and it wiggles usually at the adapter-to-intake
i put a 1/4" coat of blue loctite and new lock washers and after a week or two it loosened again.
i was gonna try using orange high temp rtv, ive seen them used on headers same thing exhaust gas, on the perimiter of the mounting surfaces
    - Intake Manifold  Flat EGR mounting surface one slot and one circle orfice for EGR function * was gonna run a bead on the mounting surface on the adapter
-EGR Adapter(trans daptl/summit racing) was gonna run a bead on the top and bottom mounting surface
I was wondering if i should cover half the threads in loctite or get the red high temp locktite and i will get new lock washers.
    Your thoughts please
