77-79 upper grill
Looking for a grill not sure if it was from an impala or caprice but it had a Chevy emblem in the middle of it. There's one that was sold a while back on the original post, I had one that got busted in an accident I was in when my 78 was my daily driver, looking to find it again for my new 78 I'm building.

OK, let's start with some basic info. You have a 78 what? Impala or Caprice?

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
I have a 78 caprice, I'm pretty sure the bolt holes for the grills are flipped from caprice to Impala or maybe between the years. I'm pretty sure I had it on upside down which makes me think it was an impala grill, but you couldn't tell when it was on.

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
OK. The grill on page one is from a 79 Impala. The 79 Impala has basically a 78 Caprice front end with different headlight doors and moldings. The grill interchanges with the 77 and 78 Caprice.
Personally it's my favorite.
If you want more interchangeability, install 79 Impala headlight housings on your Caprice. Notice the grill mounting points?
Bah, Servimage is down right now so I can't post the pic.
Anyway, the 1st pic on page one is a 79 Impala. There's 2 lower mounting points for the grill on each one so different ones can be used.

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
The I'll be on the search for a 79 impala grill then, I prefer the caprice headlights to the impala ones because I like how the trim bezels wrap around. If I remember correctly on my 79 impala they were on the side of a body color piece extended off the fender. Here's my 78 (and my old 78 that's getting parted out)

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
I too prefer the Caprice moldings.
77-78 Caprice and 79 Impala headlight housings are virtually identical. Here's my 79 Impala with 77 Caprice parts on it.
The Caprice and Impala parts are a direct interchange
Your car is looking good. I like the blacked out chrome moldings. I did that on a couple of mine. 2" wide electrical tape works well, that way it can be easily removed when a person wants to change-up the look again.
Hey, I have a pair of NOS 78 Caprice tail light lenses for sale

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
I painted all the trim from my blue 78 with a suade black called rat rod black, the matte black on the car is a high build primer. The gray under the hood is what the body color will actually be when she's all finished. I got this car last year (one owner 30k miles puke green with a landau top and garage kept) and stripped all the trim off it and saved it because it was still nice. My dad had the blue one before me and had previously painted it black at least 15 years ago and the look just stuck with me. I plan on smoking the side markers and tail lights (I have spares for most) so I'm good on those! Thanks though

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
Would you happen to have a 79' Caprice Upper Grill w/ Chrome Trim or Passenger side marker light w/trim?

Okay so I'm at super Chevy and I found that grill you had for sale for the 79 Impala but it's too big for the caprice setup. What caprice grill had an emblem on it? Or did you put that on one of the other grills? I might just cut it to make it fit haha

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
None of the 77-79 Caprice grills have a bow tie on them, only the 77 and 79 Impalas do. Some people use a 79 Impala grill on their 77 or 78 Caprices, it's a direct fit, and vice versa. (the 79 Impala is basically a 78 Caprice with some slightly different front end parts and tail lights.)
At the Super Chevy show, which grill are you referring to?

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
Damnit I have the 77 one haha back on th search for the 79 grill! That makes sense because I used to have the 79 one and when I saw the 77 at the swap meet at maple grove I thought it was the same one but looking at your pictures I def had the 79 grill which is why it fit my caprice setup and this 77 one doesn't

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
Yeah, the 77 and 79 Impala grills are real similar. The way I tell the difference is: 7-7-7. the 77 Impala has 7 vertical bars. (79 has 5)

Re: Lots of 77-79 Parts New and Used
I would but I'm an ahole who can't leave anything alone so I painted it suade black and the emblem red last night thinking it would bolt right on to my car this morning before the show, which it obviously did not =[

I have rear arm rests in green or red. And passenger side kick panels in red or black.
I have the red top pads and ash trays, but unfortunately that's all the pics I can find atm. If you're interested in them or the black kick panel i'll take more pics.
