BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Ah yes a very hard part to find for our Caps and Imps but here is a great website that reproduces all the bumper filler for our cars (for the most part) they even have the rear center filler for my 79 caprice, because mine is split in many locations. Heres the link to this website.

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone purchased that center bumper filler that you know of. What quality is it and does it mount the same way as the original one?

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone thought of fabricating something back there to replace that part other than the one from Replica-Plastics?

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
I did!!! If you go look at my blue caprice in my thread, you'll see it has rear center bumper filler. Of course, I couldn't find it back then and I happen to be in Lowe's one day and was staring at this vinyl base board trim which is very thick and flexible. I can't remember the exact thing, but I was planning on doing the same thing again. It was easy to trim, install and paint and looked perfect I thought. I'm planning on visiting Lowe's or Home Depot to see if they still have this. It was maybe 3 inches wide and it was white. It had a little beveled angle down one side which made it rise just right on the bumper. I already knew I'd be doing this again. The car I just bought doesn't even have the filler on the bumper.79treemaster wrote:Has anyone thought of fabricating something back there to replace that part other than the one from Replica-Plastics?

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
I went and found a better picture of it on one of my many flash drives. I can't seem to find a real good picture of it as I apparently didn't take any close-ups of the rear bumper. At any rate, it's simply base board trim and it's just the right thickness:
If you're interested, when I get to this point, I'll do a how-to on it.

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it was nothing more than a cheap "Z" shaped piece of fiberglass.
I had to measure and drill my own holes to mount it, and no matter how you mod it, it does not fill the gap properly.
Instead of coming up at a slight angle like the factory one, like I said, it's "Z" shaped and is set back about an inch and a half or so from the rear fascia.
People would be better off buying a couple tubes of silicon sealer and rebuilding the one they have.

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for showing pictures of that aftermarket one. I was thinking about that until I saw your photos and now I know I don't want it. I think I'll do what I did last time, but instead of using 3M double-sided tape which wasn't the greatest idea, I'll use something a little stronger like panel bond adhesive maybe. OR...maybe I'll just suck the bumpers in like that one car in the other thread. I can't get over how good that looks.

You should do a poll!
I vote: suck in the bumpers! (and narrow them )

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah i was going to buy that also but im not now, i was either thinking of sucking the bumpers also, though im not sure how the rear would look, i know the front looks awesome tucked in. (Ive been diligently looking for the owner of that light blue impala with no luck yet because i want to see what the rear looks like.) Or do what you did Solo, you said you found a vinyl piece at lowes or home depot?

hey solo, is this about the same thing you found at lowes? http://www.lowes.com/pd_310628-1487-07527_0__?Ntt=vinyl+base+board+trim&UserSearch=vinyl+baseboard+trim&productId=3340764&rpp=32

I'm about 80% sure it was this:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_587940-33674-VC25C81P029_0__?productId=50139176&Ntt=vinyl+base&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dvinyl%2Bbase&facetInfo=
It's hard to tell from the pic though. I just need to go down there and walk around and hopefully I'll recognize it. It's been about 12 years since I did that. I don't remember having to buy a 120ft roll of it though. I think it was just all one piece about 8-10 ft. long. I'll get down there one day this week and figure this out.

Actually I did. It's really not covers though. It's metal mesh painted white between the factory cover and the bezel. It created a neat effect since the brake lights still showed through red. Surprisingly, the lights were highly visible in the day time and you couldn't tell much difference at night.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I wish Classic has a better picture of it. I'm looking at it on a 26" monitor and I can't tell much from the photo. It does look different than that other one though and it does state "manufactured to factory specifics" so this may be the ticket here. Good find. I didn't know they had that and I get their thick Impala book every once in awhile.

Re: BUMPER FILLER!!!!!!!!!!
It looks like Replica Plastics might have changed their design from the POS one I bought. (The RP in the p/n is for replica plastics.) The shape actually does look slightly different, and they say it has the holes already drilled. I'd still be careful, but who knows... maybe somebody finally heard our requests and made a GOOD one now?

If CI is selling the RP one, RP sells direct to the public. $69.
