1979 Impala 4Dr. 350 V8. See picture at http://www.pab3790.wix.com/mysite. I cut these wires 2 years ago and marked which goes to which but the marks didn't hold up. I want to reconnect. Does it matter how I do it? Is there a polarity? Thanks.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer
I do believe that polarity dosen't matter. I'm almost positive the seatbelt warning system is just a set of open contact points that the seatbelt closes when you insert it into the latch assembly turing off the light/buzzer before it times out.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer
A seat belt buzzer??
Lol my fiancee has a CR-V that if you take the belt if it rings every 20 sec UGH the
humanity. The first thing I did to mine was disconnect it as I live on a private road
so when I go get my mail etc I don't need to put my seatbelt on, I hate seat belt buzzers
other than taking your car to a show if it was a resto why would want that thing hooked up
unless you are into torture?

Ahh, I get it now. The buzzer would never bother me because I always wear my seat belt. However, it didn't work in my first Caprice and it doesn't work in the one I have now either.lol That's probably not something I would fool with hooking back up or repairing because I don't need a reminder, but if you are going all out to make sure everything works, well, then every little detail counts. In my Pontiacs, it's nothing more than a light on the dash with no sound.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer
My 79 dont make the buzzing sound, it only light the lamp in the dash.
Did all all caprices have the buzzer?
I would really like to have it, since the car is so unmolested.

Hi there. Our B cars have two warning buzzers, one for the door ajar while the key is in the ignition tumbler and the other is for the seatbelt warning system. Both buzzers are located near the fuse box. The one for the door ajar/key is a small grey box that just plugs right in the fuse box.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer
After seeing this and never really noticing any buzzing I checked and noticed I have the keys in ignition buzzer and seat belt light in dash. Never heard any seat belt buzzer before. Was always hoping to get everything working correctly and thought all I had left was the "digital" clock to have her 100%, this is one I'll also be fine without.
Dumb question but with the different dash displays for these cars. I was curious if the cars that have the seatbelt buzzer also have a dash light? I have the more circular dash console showing seat belt light but never heard buzzing due to seat belt.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer
Not sure about the '77-'79 (I'd assume pretty similar circuit operation), but in my '87 Electrical Diagrams, Service Manual Supplement it lists two options, Buzzer or Chime, both work the same with following System Check:
1. Seatbelt Warning. Sit in driver's seat with LH door closed. Turn the Ignition Switch to "Run", and do not buckle the seatbelt.
- A slow chime alarm sounds.
- "Fasten Belts" indicator lights in Instrument Panel.
- Chime stops and indicator goes out after 4-8 seconds.
2. Key Warning. With Ignition Switch in "Accy", "Lock", or "Off" but the key is still in ignition, open the LH front door.
- Fast chime alarm sounds (faster than seatbelt chime).
3. Remove key from Ignition Switch.
- Alarm stops
4. Lights On Warning. With the key removed from the ignition, turn the Light Switch to "Park" or "Head".
- Fast pulsed chime alarm sounds (faster than key chime).
5. Turn lights "Off".
- Chime stops
Note, difference between the two is that the Buzzer (Audio Alarm Module) and the Chime (Multi-Function Chime Module) is that the former does not use the input for the "Lights On" reminder.
FYI, my '87 Coupe has the Chime option.
