Aftermarket Shifter

I just installed my Hurst shifter and the last time I put one of these in a friend did the linkage and that was umpteenth

years ago. So my knowledge of the actual detent cable mount positioning is non-existent at this point. Here are


pictures I took today can anyone tell me what I am missing this Quarter stick pulls into Park and pushes into drive with

the alignment shown at the pan in the picture how is that possible when Park is clockwise and 1st is counterclockwise?

And from numerous searches this orientation seems the most common?

I just called Hurst and I am not crazy the shifter is a rear exit and that orientation doesn't work I have to move

everything as he put it from 6o'clock to 12 o'clock ? I assume he mean everything has to be above the pan lip?

Are you sure the shifter is mounted correctly? I could be wrong but it looks like the it's mounted backwards. Shouldn't the park/reverse lock-out handle be in front of the shaft?

OMFG what a ninny I feel like I knew something was backwards here I guess it was just me!

Or me?!? The lever I referred to is actually the trigger, lol.

Here is what it should have looked like (and does now) and it works great without any adjustment I just took it for

quick spin.





I should have realized with the other way it didn't just pull through lol. Now I'll have to pony up 45 for the Hurst cover or

make my own. There was one I seen on ebay that had Hurst and Chevy on it!

The only thing I didn't have that I had to cob was the cable didn't come up clips and Hurst clips are 22 dollars a piece!

So I used 5/8 E clips (A whole .28 in hardware store) and hope the will hold for a while. In case anyone is wondering

the Quarter Stick I have came with the safety/rev switch I just have to hook it up now :} :}

That Reverse lockout obviously will take some getting used to!

If you're unfamiliar with a 1/4 stick, here's how to use it - put the trans in 1st, nail the go pedal, at the proper RPM bang it straight into 2nd without the trigger, when ready for 3rd grab a handful of the trigger and bang 3rd.

The reverse lockout mech is a pita to use every time you park, but worth it.
