Can anyone tell which parts could be my seat belt buzzer or key-in-ignition buzzer?
The top left square i know is the flasher relay and the round relay is the hazard relay, right?
What is the larger rectangular box with a grey wire coming out of it?
What is the smaller see-through square next to this?

Also, I noticed this connector just hanging there. What would the plug into?

What does this larger metal thing control?

The small clear relay is the horn relay, the bigger black box is the chimer. The gray wire is connected to the instrument lamps so when you have the park lights or headlights on, it will chime to let you know they are still on, the green and orange wires come from the seat belt and key in ignition, i think the green one is the seat belt. But that connector plugs into a port right next to that horn relay, its kind of tight but if you look youll find it.

    Great, thanks a lot :-)
I can't wait to get to the car and look for a place to put that connector!

How about that metal can hanging loosely in front of the fuse box with the big connector on it?

Its some type of relay, you might have a factory option that requires it like defrost or something like that, but im not exactly sure what it is.

Are you talking about the single Orange wire the runs from the fuse block to the cylindrical metal component?

I would assume that is for an option that requires Batt 12v constant power.

Nope, not that one. I would assume that cylindrical thing is some sort of condensor.
I am talking about the big rectangular metal box with a 5 wire connector on it.
    What is that :-)

You are asking about, in the last photo, what the 5 wire connector controls? The connector with 2 BLK, 1 ORN, 1 LT BLU and 1 PPL wires? The photo appears cut off for me (if I am supposed to be seeing a metal piece) that is possibly off the frame of the photo.

    Five wires, hmmm,...a relay possibly?

Edit: I clicked the photo and got the non-cropped version of the photo (haha!). I think it is a relay.

Yeah its some type of relay, for what im not sure. I do believe that cylinder which is a condenser is to absorb any "noise" in the electrical system same way as the condenser in the distributor but again not sure on that either

What options does the car have that you know about? I looked in my '87 Electrical Supplement Service Manual, however 8 years newer, and the only thing that resembled that (wire colors) would be the power door lock relay. GM didn't change much through the years, but the '87 has many more wires and things could have definitely changed.  The power door lock relay for my '87 Coupe is located in the passenger side kick panel right above the ECM for the engine, so location may have changed if that option is present.  It could be that or something completely different.  I know my HVAC Relay is similar, but that in the engine compartment next to the resistors and blower motor.  Again, GM didn't change much, but wiring could definitely have been changed through the years, as well as placement of relays.  I do what was suggested above, start playing with the options one at a time, or unplug it and see what no longer works.

The door lock relay always stayed in the pass side kick panel from 77 to 90 so its some other factory option, im curious now, let us know what you find!

It has the usual: power locks, 40/60 seat with power in the drivers seat, electric trunk opening, power windows, cruise control, Comfortron A/C, pulse wipers, defogger. That's about it, I think...
A friend of mine, who has had 15 Caprice's, suggests it might be for the power windows ?
I didn't get a chance to drive out to where the car is in storage tonight, but will be sure to get out there one of these nights asap. This is getting interesting :-)

Nope, not power windows, those use the silver small relays that are actually in the fuse block.
My car does not have defroster, comfortron a/c, or electric trunk opener, so it may be for one of those items.

The relay is for the defogger. It is stamped 527362.. The defogger function don't seem to work, so I think I will re-solder the relay for starters.
I plugged in the 2-wire connective for the buzzer and now I have the sweetest (most annoying ) sounding chime in the world, if I forget to turn off the lights or fail to put on my seat belt. Yay :-)

I'm slightly surprised to hear it is the Rear Window Defogger. No wonder I couldn't cross reference to my newer '87. The '87 doesn't use a relay for the Rear Window Defogger, it uses a solid state switch/ timer. Power for the latter method uses the IGN slot of the Gauges Fuse and the PWR ACCY Circuit Breaker in the fuse block.

I had a feeling it was the defroster, my 84 was the same as Xtreme Thunder's 87, just had the switch with built in relay and timer, i wonder what the cutoff year was when they stopped using it, so im sure at least 77 to 79 used it, and it might be up until 83 when they switch the wiper switch to the multistalk, which freed up room for the defrost button, but who knows....

Well, the defogger switch is kinda placed in the middle of nowhere on the 77-79 cars. Interesting theory about 83 being the cutoff year because they introduced the multistalk.
Now that we are at that multistalk; I recently overheard a discussion about what year gm introduced the resume function for the cruise control.
Some said 83 ( because of the stalk ) for Chevrolet, but one guy claimed he he bought a brand new  Olds 98 coupe in '79, that had the resume function.
