    little update.

    the cars been sitting since spring of last year when we got heavy into racing season and i did some trading with my brother.. ditched the efi kit for a complete ls 4.8 swap.
    had the engine on the stand for 8 months after accumulating some parts here and there but not really interested in the swap.
    then we had an unforseen passing of a very close family member and a big part of the family and that has turned me back to this project.
    one of those lifes to short to not do the things you want to do.... never thought this car would have a meaning like that but when your world is turned upside down you tend to find new light in very dark times. times like this really help someone grow or they can tear some apart.... i already put my pieces back together but never will they be the same...
    i know its just a car but now its a mean to life for me so with that said and my little girl missing her favorite car to ride in im back to working on "O"

    so far i have motor mounts, advanced adapters flex plate, holley 302-2 pan, a set of ebay turbo headers some needed gaskets and such, standalone harenss.

    ended up tearing the heads of to inspect the cylinders and all looks good. going back in with ls9 head gaskets, a brian tooley cam, double valve springs and trunnion kit.
    should have it back in the car this week/weekend to get turbo plumbing started and my injectors should be here by next week.

    i will get them up as it comes along. been slow going as the cars still outside and its still cold and snowing on and off here.. but ill get it done and get pictures up here in a few days.

    going to trailer it back to my brothers so we can do the tig work.

    Bought it used from a buddy. Only because it has 4.10's.  Got a bigger suprise when I inspected it and it turned out to be a 8.5" housing and not a 7.5"

    yeah started doing trunion upgrades last night but wanted to hangout with my little girl so didnt get much done. should be able to get the cam and rockers done tonight. gonna wait on the springs and gaskets till im ready to bolt the heads.
    if all goes right it should be back in the car tomorrow to plumb piping.

    yes it is, ive decided to make this a true sleeper and build a grudge car out of a malibu. so this boat isnt going anywhere haha Very Happy Laughing

    put the cam in last night but i need a cam thrust plate due to a bad plate seal.

    recommend these dual springs to anyone building an ls. i have seen them first hand save and engine due to a spring failure. (out spring broke and inner spring retained the valve).

    ordered a new harmonic 25% under drive balancer so i can put my turbo drains in the front cover since the holley pan is too shallow in the front to make a 45* port for drains.  
    sfi 18.1 rated and only 6.25" overall diameter. direct factory replacement for the truck front accessories so it lines up perfectly with everything.

    I bought a 4.8 sight unseen with promise of low miles and received a high miles 4.8 with scored cylinders.

    To totally rebuild costs too much for my budget (machine work and engine kit run $900-1000).

    This is 2nd motor I parted out because of internal damage first was a used 350 crate with similar problems.

    Yours is coming together though excellent I must say.

    ouch yeah i would of parted with it and found another. But i must say that price isn't horrible really. Theres a machine shop in Colorado that was gonna charge me 3500 to get a 350 to hold 500hp and that was just the bottom end work. I still had to buy heads cam, valve-train, intake and fuel system... for 3500 i could buy a complete intake to oil pan 602 crate. Same as what is in my imca sport mod and put boost to it... but i wanted more fuel mileage with this car so i decided to just go ls.  

    An thank you its slowly getting there lots of little things to get here and there. its adding up in the wallet but defiantly worth it for what i want to do

    My plan is to be driving it early to mid may. i want to get it dialed in all summer. Going to go with a racepak for gauges because I cant honestly buy the gauges i need for what the racepak iq3 street dash cost's. Along with doing the 8.5 swap with disk brakes, then going to 15x10 RC Components wheels in the rear for when its time to play.
    also going to be taking weight out of the car... Cool Shocked Cool

    But as long as I'm daily driving it all summer the rest will come easy...
    one thing i learned is the need to work on a project isn't there if your not enjoying it everyday..

    Haha deal, my rear ends pretty, simple, im sure youve seen the thread i posted a few years ago showing my swap, but i forgot to make another showing everything since then, i think i should make that thread. The rear was from a 96 impala so it already had disc brakes which was what i wanted so i didnt have to mess with a drum to disc swap, just bought new parts and bolted them on. I ran that stock rear with the 3.08 for about 2 years, and shoot its already been a years since i did all the work to it, gosh time needs to slow down. But i did the basics, i think it was close to 1500 i put in it. The list includes: 3.90 gears from summit, detroit truetrac (love it btw), moser axles, a G2 diff cover (i got the main cap support cover) And ofcourse overhauled the seals and bearings. On the axles i had them drill two bolt patterns, a 5x5 and the 5x4.75. I use the 5x4.75 pattern. I had to change the brake rotors for the bolt pattern since the impala was 5x5, and i wanted to go back to 5x4.75. So i cant remember exactly what year, but i think it was either c3 or c4 corvette that had the same size rotor, depth, diameter, just with the right bolt pattern i needed! I was happy with that otherwise i was going to have to get the old rotors drilled with the new pattern.

    Ive been thinking of doing an ls swap. But not sure, if i do id like to do it a bit differently, i want a large cube aluminum ls3 and keep it na. Idk, then i talk myself out of it, because id like to keep it old school with a small block and maybe a turbo, idk theres too many choices. Im happy with what ive got now, but ive gotten used to it and want more!

    I'll have to read through it. As my rear end has what looks to be metric mounts on it im.trying to figure out which axles and c clip elimators blocks I need. Once it's in I'll. Swap brakes to disks later. But definalty need more stopping power. Thinking about swapping corvette brakes on the front an going to 17" front wheels but i'dk
