Hello all...New member here out of Louisiana
Just picked up this 79 Caprice last week so I went looking for a forum and well here I am!!

The guy I got it from took pretty good care of it. Besides the after market stereo, Iroc wheels and alarm (lol) it's basically stock with 87,000 original miles. The one thing that really caught my attention and the reason the previous owner nicknamed the car "Unicorn" was the factory skyroof aka sunroof. I've been around my fare share of Caprice's and this would be first 79 I have seen with one.

Are the skyroofs really that rare?  I read somewhere that it was like a $600-$700 option when new.

It does need a little tlc but what 37 year car doesn't. The interior plastics are bad, water pump has a small leak, and  the front shocks bounce more than jumper at a kids birthday party.

I'll take some more pictures when the weather decides to cooperate. In the mean time it's going to hang out here with my 75....Yea I love B Bodies!!

    Welcome!

Yup, the Skyroof is probably the rarest option available for these cars. I've only seen a handful over the years. Consider yourself very lucky.
I've never been lucky enough to find a car with one for myself. If I do, I'm jumping on it!

If you run into any issues with yours, Gooched Caprice (on here) is probably the most knowledgeable about them. He knows the parts from other cars that interchange, etc.

This may come in handy at some point:

I just happened to be on Ebay one night looking for parts for my 75 when I ran across it. Noticed the car was close by so I looked on Craigslist and sure enough there it was also. Called the next morning and they still had the car. I called off of work, went by Uhaul to get a trailer and hit the road.

For the price he was asking I thought it was going to be a basket case....boy was I wrong...every thing works (including the clock)

I am curious to find out what years are interchangeable for interior pieces. I know the plastics don't hold up too well on these and the B pillar plastics on mine are shot.

I can help with interior plastics.  I have a 77 sedan I'm parting out.

The arm rests are gone but the rest of the plastic pieces are there.
I have other arm rests if you need them.

Great!! I'll double check again tonight which pieces I need.

The only thing good on my armrest were the top pads, the rest was garbage.  I was able to grab new ones for both of the passenger side doors on Ebay, just need the two for the drivers side.

All four doors looked like this!!

Love the Unicorn! I call Irene (my car) a NW convertible, since it rains here all the time a real covertible is almost pointless, but this big ol' hole in the top just lets all the sunshine in! From what I can tell only Lincoln had put in larger roof holes, they had 42 and 44 in some Mark V and Town Cars during the late 70's and 80's. Keep up the progress getting her fixed up the way you want.
