I just got a look at the stock rearend out of my 1979 Caprice.

Its a 2.41 Limited Slip w/S spring.  Its a 10 bolt ring gear and 10 bolt cover.

Same as the older Chevelles and Novas.  In order to salvage this for resale, I would be installing a R.G. spacer with gears 3.08 and up.

They axles are bolted in by flanges.  NO C-clips.   Most likely 28 spline.

FYI for those who have them.   Their not an 8.5, but not too bad either.

They beat a 7.5 any day.

Today the 8.5 is going in.

Then again it maybe an earlier 8.5. It shows the ads for gears like that.

    ?????????????????

Won't know till I cross reference the ring gear part numbers.

Then the whole story will be out.
