For anyone with an olds delta 88 from the 80's, the pull-a-part in Canton, Ohio has an '81 delta with the factory aluminum hood. The hinges are already gone, but the hood was still there when i was there last Saturday. Just figured I'd throw this up in case anyone was interested.

If only it were closer
How do you check if it is aluminum? Magnet test?

I'm pretty sure it's just the delta 88's from the 80's.

Did the magnet test and then scuffed the paint on one of the sides to see what color the metal was. Also, it weighs like 40 lbs.
Where abouts are you, by the way?

Aluminum hood
I am located in the middle of the lower peninsula. South East of Clare, Michigan about 20 miles.
It would be nice to drop half or better of the weight of the hood.

It would be nice to drop some weight without paying 500 bucks for a fiberglass hood, I didnt know any b bodies came with an aluminum hood so thats good to know, i wonder about the body lines in the hood and the length and width if it fits other b bodies.

Re: 1981 Delta 88 Aluminum hood
The most obvious difference I can see is that on the 81-89 delta 88 and delta 98, the center part of the hood that's normally 'raised' on a caprice or impala, is actually sinks down like a relief. So, like, the whole center part of the hood is dropped slightly. one thing I have found is that a couple junkyards in my area have the aluminum hinges in stock for like $15 each, so I might pick those up because I'm saving up for a VFN hood for my impala.

Hey if you get those hinges send me a pic of them, and if you can get two pair, and if youd be willing to sell them and ship them to me i might be interested, im also wanting to get the same VFN hood also, i also didnt know they made aluminum hinges, im thinking maybe because of dissimilar metals so no corosion hmm. Anyway if you could that would be awesome.

I didn't know those parts were available in aluminum either. I will check locally and see if I can get lucky. Thanks for the useful info. I live in the southernmost tip of Texas. Rio Grande Valley
