Hi, just found this forum. Great!

    I just got a 1979 caprice ( the 3rd one I have owned ).

This car is clean and un-molested and it has cruise control. The lever on the steering column was replaced at some point and a stainless steel aftermarket lever was installed instead. This lever does not have the engage-button in the end. I am searching for the right lever.
Meanwhile I have wondered how to control activation of the cruise control.
I can not find any on/off switch anywhere on the dash ?

It's fully controlled (inside the auto) by the column mounted switch.
Be sure to replace all the vacuum lines going to and from the under-hood control unit. Even a small leak will make the system function improperly.

Welcome! Yeah there is no on off button its all controled by one button. I got one out of a corvette as an extra, but if i had an extra extra id let you have it. They arent very hard to find, but they were originally interior trim colored and all the ones youll find will more than likely be black, the one i got is black, but my original one is grey/beige which is technically called oyster. I thought it was cool that one button controlled everything, from accel, decel, resume, and off. You push the button halfway twice and it shuts off, i havent used it in almost two years so i forget how the rest works.

Alright, thanks for your info. My old ´75 Coupe deville had an on/off swithc on the dash plus the engage buttom in the column lever. Just that one button is kind of cool, I think.
Yes sir, I will be sure to check up on all the hoses.

Turbs out a previous owner took the old lever off and zip-tied it o other wires under the dash. I installed it and plugged it in and it seems to work now. It is not functioning properly though. When engaged the car will loose speed gradually.
I checked all hoses and they all hold vacum like they should. I understand you can adjust the sensibility of how the speed is maintained by turning the vacum nipple on the side of the transducer. I turned it out a bit, but that made the car keep picking up speed, when engaging the cruise by pressing the button in the lever. I can't seem to adjust it to function like it should.
    Am I overlooking something?
