    Backstory:
I have the option of purchasing a 1994 9c1 rear for $300 or the full car with LT1 and 4l60 for $750. I was able to drive the car for about 25 feet in a wrecking yard after whacking the starter for a couple minutes. Then it died and couldnt get it back started. Car did shift to reverse and then drive, can't say much past that it moved. Has 208K on the odometer, has the rear disc but is a NON posi/lsd 3.08.

I was already going to be purchasing a floor pan before i put down new carpet in the next few weeks, which I had one lined up for $70.

So taking the $750 - $70 for floor pan I had just located since the 9c1's floor is great and I can use that one. What would end up amounting to an extra $680, I can get a 8.5 NON posi rear with disc, kinda running LT1, the 4l60 trans with the HD upgrades, the whole extra car to snag parts off off and then scrap/trade/sell when done.

Here's a link to the car: Yes it says 3.41 in add but RPO code says 3.08 and no G80 code.

    Current questions:
Before I get a 9C1 paper weight in my yard I just wanted to see if anyone had any other +'s / -'s to getting the whole car versus just the rear. Would $ be better spent just to wait and find a 94-96 SS/Caprice disc rear with working lsd/posi? Would I feel much difference with the 3.08 vs 2.73 gears? Would it be an easy switch to the 5x5 hub up front as well to match the rear? Any other things you may be aware of that Im over looking? Thank you for any input.

Unless that tranny and motor mean something to you I don't know .I bought a Posi 8.5 for $200 out of a yard (80k miles),

the transmission that's a lot miles for a 4l60 would need freshening and so may the LT1 . Unless you want chassis or

body parts kinda of soso deal no real choice items in the drivetrain given the miles and all. Sounds like the drivetrain is not

    worth $750 .

Thank you for the response Myloth. At this point I'm believing $ will be best spent keeping it in my pocket and waiting for the things I'm wanting like posi and disc rather than trying to justify the disc without.

Sounds like keeping focus on passenger pan repair and new carpet will be the next project. Thank you again!

With the mileage so high I think $750 is a bit steep too. Maybe see if you can grab it for less?
I'm shocked that it has an open diff! That's pretty unusual. I wonder if it was a police car or maybe used by Code Enforcement or the health Dept.?
On the plus side, it'll have the 12" front brakes which will cost several hundred dollars alone, an oil cooler, a trans cooler, a power steering cooler, the master cylinder and combo valve you'll need for the disc rear, the floor, the 5x5 wheels, and more.
Sell the parts you don't use. 9C1 frames have extra frame supports and are sought after. I get asked all the time about seats and dashes and door panels for bubbles. Even if you only take the parts you want and junk the rest, it's still worth $150 in scrap value.

Idk man, you have some thinking to do, lol.

If it wasnt for the fact I already have access to a great 78 impala floor pan it would have been a no brainer for me. For now top priority is finishing getting Irene's interior all dialed in. If I had a whole extra car to take apart there's a good chance I could lose focus on my main tasks for the interior.

Having the floor pan fixed with another 78 B-Body I feel is an extra bonus that Im sure Irene will appreciate as well. I will be adding some additional rust protection on the new floors. I plan on putting down dynamat type material under the new carpet, refreshing some of the faded parts like arm rest and rear trim pieces will be my main priority while I have her in repair mode. Plus as you know SS9, I have an extra goodie to include to her interior that I be looking forward to installing when she's back together. Pics will be coming in the next few weeks.
